Troy, N.Y. - Rensselaer scored three unanswered goals as the Engineers defeated visiting Wayne State, 3-1, Friday night at the Houston Field House. It was Rensselaer's first win (1-5), while the Warriors are looking for their first in the young season (0-3).

Wayne State got on the board first in the opening period when freshman defenseman Chelsea Burnett (Ridgeway, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres) beat goaltender Ashley Mayr for a power-play goal. Five minutes later, Rensselaer knotted the game at one on a goal by Nicole McDonald. Rensselaer would later take the lead on a goal by Allysen Weidner with seven-and-a-half minutes remaining in the third period.

The Engineers would seal the win with an empty-net marker with just one second remaining in the game.

Wayne State junior netminder Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan), making her third start in as many games, stopped 17 shots, while Mayr made 23 saves.

Wayne State outshot Rensselaer, 24-20. The Warriors were one-for-nine on the power-play, while the Engineers were zero-for-six with the man advantage.
