Troy, N.Y. - Melissa Boal's (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders) second goal of the game, at 2:38 in overtime, gave Wayne State (1-3-0) its first win of the season as the Warriors defeated Rensselaer (1-6-0), 3-2, in overtime.

The Warriors got on the board first as Boal beat Ashley Mayr at the five minute mark of the first period. The Engineers would score twice before the period ended, on goals by Nicole McDonald and Jamie-Lynn Stewart.

But sophomore defenseman Tina Vanderhoeven (London, Ontario/London Juniors) would tie the game in the third period on a power-play marker. Sophomore Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres) and junior Danielle Wilson (Gravenhurst, Ontario/Toronto Aeros) assisted on the play.

It was then Boal's heroics. Both of her goals were unassisted. It was the fifth game-winning goal of her career.

Junior Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan) made 31 saves, while Mayr stopped 23 shots. The Warriors were one-for-five on the power-play, while Rensselaer was one-for-seven with the man-advantage.

The Warriors will rest before traveling to Storrs to play UConn next weekend, Friday and Saturday, October 27-28. Wayne State will play its home opener the following weekend, November 3-4, against Cornell.
