DETROIT - After rallying from four goal deficit, junior Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders) notched her ninth goal of the season giving the Wayne State University women's hockey team a 5-4 overtime victory over Cornell at Laynah rink to extend its four-game win streak.

WSU moves to 4-2-0 on the year while Cornell falls to 2-2-0.

Boal proved why she is one of the nation's best players leading the WSU come back with four points on two goals and two assists. Over the last four games, she has accumulated 15 points (nine goals, six assists) and leads the nation in points-per-game (2.50) and ranks second in goals-per-game (1.50).

Junior Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) notched a goal and team-high three assists making her tops in the country with 1.67 assists-per-game.

Junior Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) also added a goal while team captain Ashley King (Winnipeg, Man./River East Lightning) tallied her first goal of the season. Junior Emily Berzins Fort McMurray, Alb./Warner Hockey School (Mercyhurst) also added her first assist of the year.

Senior Tiffany Thompson (Dryden, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) entered the game at the start of the second period, and allowed one goal the rest of the way, to earn her first win of the season. She made 25 saves with 17 coming in the third period. After allowing four goals, the WSU defense shut down Cornell's offense by not allowing a goal from the 3:25 mark of the second period to the end of the game.

After falling behind 4-0 off a goal by Cornell's Brittany Forgues in the second period, the Warrior offense ignited. King got WSU on the board first at the 10:30 mark followed by Poyton's tally just a 1:20 later cutting the Big Red's lead in half at 2-2. Boal then pulled Wayne State within one, 4-3, at the 15:31 mark.

Both teams turned up the defensive intensity in the third period but DiPietro was able to light the lamp for the only goal of the frame tying the score at 4-4.

At the 1:13 mark of overtime, Cornell took a costly interference penalty. Boal made the Big Red pay just 25 seconds later with the game-winning goal sealing the 5-4 victory.

Wayne State returns home to the City Ice Arena for a two-game series against St. Lawrence Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3 at 7/2 p.m.
