Storrs, Conn. - Sophomore forward Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders), coming off her second-career hat-trick last night, scored another goal for the Warriors, but it was not enough as Connecticut beat Wayne State, 3-2, Saturday afternoon. The Warriors dropped their second-straight game and is now 1-5 overall, while UConn improved to 7-1.

After a scoreless first period, UConn got on the board first when Dominique Thibault scored a power-play goal just 34 seconds into the second period. Boal would tie the game three-and-a-half minutes later on another power-play marker. The goal was assisted by sophomores Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) and Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres). The assists were the third of the series for DiPietro and Poyton, who assisted on Boal's first two goals in Friday's contest.

But Nicole Tritter scored back-to-back goals in the third period to have the Huskies take the lead for good. A first-collegiate goal by freshman Brandi Frakie (St. Louis Park, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds) with 16 seconds remaining in the game was not enough as UConn held on for the win. Boal assisted on the goal.

It is the first time UConn has swept a series against Wayne State, as the Warriors now lead the all-time series, 4-3.

Junior goaltender Tiffany Thompson, seeing her first action of the season, made 22 saves, while Brittany Wilson stopped 36 shots.

Wayne State was one-for-six on the power-play, while UConn was one-for-seven.

Wayne State will return home for its home-opener as Cornell invades City Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday, November 3-4, at 7:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
