HAMILTON, N.Y. - Freshman Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) had a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Warriors (1-5-2) to their first victory of the season, a 4-0 shutout at Colgate on Saturday.

After scoring just two power-play goals in its first seven games this season, Wayne State matched that tally with two goals in five power-play opportunities. The first came off the stick of DiPietro at the 15:57 mark of the first period, assisted by Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) and Laura Monk (Mississauga, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres).

The floodgates opened for the Warriors in the second period, as freshman Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) netted her second goal of the season, with assists from Jessica Snelgrove (Tecumseh, Ont./Team Ontario) and Tina Vanderhoeven (London, Ont./London Juniors), at the 1:57 mark.

Boal recorded Wayne State's second power-play goal at 7:23 with assists from DiPietro and Danielle Wilson (Gravenhurst, Ont./Toronto Aeros) to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead, and DiPietro completed the scoring at 13:54 with an unassisted goal.

Warrior goaltender Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Que./Royal Metabetchouan) earned her second career shutout, making 22 saves.

Poyton and DiPietro scored in both games in this series at Colgate. DiPietro now has six goals on the season.

Wayne State outshot Colgate, 23-22, and killed both of the Raiders' power plays.

Every two-game series played between these two squads, dating back to 2000, have resulted in a split, with Colgate winning the first game and Wayne State winning the second each time.

The Warriors will meet the Connecticut Huskies next weekend, Nov. 4-5, at City Sports Center Arena.
