Detroit, Mich. - The Wayne State women's hockey team lost to visiting Minnesota State, 6-1, on Friday, Nov. 10, at City Ice Arena. Wayne State dropped its record to 3-6 overall, while the Mavericks improved to 4-6. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for WSU.

After a scoreless first period, MSU scored twice in the middle period to take a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes. The Mavericks then erupted for four goals in the final stanza - three unanswered - before the Warriors responded.

The Mavericks led 5-0 before sophomore forward Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders) scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season. That score put her tied for first all-time in goals in Wayne State women's hockey history. The 33 goals are tied with former Warrior standout, Kelly Zamora.

Minnesota State outshot the Warriors, 32-26, including an 18-7 advantage in the third period.

Wayne State was 0-for-3 on the power-play, while the Mavericks were 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Junior netminder Tiffany Thompson (Dryden, Ontario/Thunder Bay North Hawks), making her fourth-straight start, made 26 saves, while Maverick goaltender Britni Kehler stopped 25 shots.

The same teams will face off tomorrow, Nov. 11, at City Ice Arena at 4:00 p.m.
