BOSTON - Junior Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders) notched her second hat trick of the season to lead the Wayne State University women's hockey team to a 7-2 win over Northeastern Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena. With the win, WSU completed the series sweep and improves to 6-4-0 on the season while Northeastern falls to 1-8-1.

For the fourth time this season, WSU remains unbeaten when scoring over five goals in a game. Boal also notched two assists in addition to her three goals extending her point streak to an impressive eight games.

Junior defensemen Tina Vanderhoeven (London, Ont./London Juniors/Team Ontario) added to WSU's offensive production from the blue line with her first goal of the season and an assist with sophomore Christine Jefferson (Neplean, Ont./NCCP Junior Raiders) also adding an assist.

Freshman forward Janet Babchishin (Sturgis, Sask./Saskatchewan Prairie Ice) scored her first career goal while junior Emily Berzins (Ft. McMurrary, Alb./Warner Hockey School) added a goal and an assist.

Junior Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) continued her impressive offensive output the game-winning goal and a team-high three assists along with junior Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) who added two helpers.

Senior goalie Tiffany Thompson (Dryden, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) record her third win of the season making 14 saves.

Northeastern was led by Chelsey Jones who notched a goal and assist while Lindsay Berman added a goal.

The first period was a defensive struggle until the 15:47 mark when Babchishin scored WSU's first goal from Berzins and senior captain Ashley King (Winnipeg, Man./River East Lighting). The Warriors went up 2-0 on Boal's first goal of the game on assists from DiPietro and Poyton with just 48 second remaining.

Northeastern got on the board in the second period on a goal from Berman. However WSU would put the game out of reach with goals from Poyton, Vanderhoeven and Boal's second to go up 5-1.

Boal completed the hat trick at the 16:59 mark of the third period from Poyton and Vanderhoeven while Berzins added her second tally of the year to wrap up the 7-2 victory.

The Warriors return home for a two-game series against Rensselaer Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17. Both games will be part of a double-header with the WSU men's team and will be played at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum at 3:30 and 3:00 p.m.
