Detroit, Mich. - The Wayne State women's hockey team (5-7) dropped a 6-3 decision against visiting Clarkson (6-6) on Saturday, Nov. 18, at City Ice Arena.
Wayne State lost one-goal leads twice (1-0, 3-2) against the Golden Knights, who broke the game open with four third-period scores.
Sophomore forward Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders) scored twice for the Warriors, who split the weekend series against Clarkson.
After the Warriors went up 3-2 on a goal by Boal, assisted by sophomore forward Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres), the Golden Knights scored four unanswered for the win, including an empty-net goal with two seconds remaining in the contest.
All six Clarkson goals came on the power play (6-8), while the Warriors were one-for-six.
Junior netminder Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan) made 19 saves for the Warriors, while her counterpart, Stephanie Hansen, made 15 saves.
Wayne State will hit the road as it participates in the UNH Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25-26. The Warriors will take on the third-ranked hosts on Friday before facing off against No. 10 Boston College the next day.
