Ithaca, N.Y. - The Wayne State University women's hockey team (4-8-2) was unable to complete a road sweep at Cornell despite taking a 4-3 lead with under four minutes remaining in regulation.

The Big Red scored with 65 seconds left in regulation and then netted a power-play goal 1:28 into overtime.

The Warrior freshmen class of Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres), Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) and Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) continued to shine accounting for all four WSU lamp lighters.

Poyton's eighth of the campaign, off an assist from Boal, came on a WSU power play and tied the game at one 4:13 into the middle stanza.

The game was scoreless for the first 22 minutes before Cornell's Andrea Skinner scored.

The hosts then took a 3-1 advantage with two power-play goals (17:30 of the second period and 5:19 of the third period).

Boal's unassisted goal at the 6:22 mark pulled Wayne State within a goal at 3-2.

DiPietro's even-strength marker with 4:27 left in the third period tied the game at three. DiPietro's seventh of the season was assisted by Poyton.

Poyton's goal at the 16:35 mark off an assist from DiPietro gave the Warriors a 4-3 lead, however Cornell's Vicki Hodgkinson scored with 65 seconds left in regulation and the goalie on the bench to even the score at four.

The Big Red was given a power play in overtime and it took less than a minute for CU to score the game-winning goal.

WSU sophomore Tiffany Thompson (Dryden, Ont./Thunder Bay Northern Hawks) made 31 saves while Beth Baronick stopped 26 Warrior shots.

Wayne State went one for five with the man-advantage and allowed Cornell three power-play goals in six chances.

The Warriors return home for a two-game set against St. Cloud State this Friday and Saturday at City Sports Center Arena in Detroit. Face-off on Friday is at 7 p.m., while Saturday's game begins at 4 p.m.
