Warrior goaltender Tiffany Thompson (Dryden, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) has been named the College Hockey America Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

On Friday, while the host and fifth-ranked Mercyhurst Lakers outshot the Warriors, 44-11, Thompson made 42 saves and surrendered just two power-play goals to help Wayne State come away with a 2-2 overtime tie, breaking a 24-game losing record all-time against Mercyhurst.

The 42 saves ties a career-high she established in her first career start, a 6-0 loss at Mercyhurst in the final regular-season game of the 2004-05 season.

In Saturday's 4-2 loss, Thompson made 35 saves, including 16 in the third period, to keep her team within striking distance of the lead.

The Warriors' next series will be against Rensselaer this weekend, Jan. 20-21, as part of a doubleheader with WSU's men's hockey team at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. Both games will be broadcast on the Internet via Teamline.
