The Wayne State women's hockey team (8-14-0) plays its final non-conference games of the season at ECACHL-member Quinnipiac (7-17-0) on Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
The Series
Wayne State leads the all-time series, 6-0-0, including a 2-0-0 record at Quinnipiac.
Behind the Bench
Jim Fetter is in his fourth season at Wayne State and has a record of 50-62-12.
In his seventh year as a head coach, Michael Barrett has a record of 67-126-14, including a 38-107-12 record in five years at Quinnipiac.
Scouting the Warriors
Wayne State was swept last weekend by No. 1 Mercyhurst, 8-0 and 7-5. Friday's shutout loss was the worst against the Lakers since a 10-0 setback on Feb. 19, 2000. Valery Turcotte started the game and made 24 saves in 26+ minutes, while Tiffany Thompson made seven saves in 13 minutes.
Saturday's contest was a different story as Wayne State scored the first three goals by Christine Jefferson and Sam Poyton (twice). MC tied the game midway through the second period. After Katrina Protopapas recorded her first collegiate goal, the Lakers scored the next three goals for a 6-4 lead. Ashley King and Valerie Chouinard would complete the scoring. Lindsay DiPietro recorded a three-assist afternoon. Melissa Boal was held without a point in a weekend series for the first time in her collegiate career.
Boal leads the team in goals (16), points (26), power-play goals (9) and short-handed goals (1), while DiPietro is tops with 20 assists.
Turcotte has seen the majority of time in goal and has a record of 5-11-0, a 3.81 goals-against average and a .881 save percentage. Thompson has a record of 3-3-0, a 3.43 goals-against average and a .855 save percentage.
Wayne State has converted 27-of-120 (.225) man-advantage opportunities and killed off 84-of-111 (.757) opponent chances.
Scouting the Bobcats
Former CHA member Quinnipiac sits in ninth place in the Bobcats' second year in the ECACHL. Quinnipiac is 1-5 in its past six games with the lone win at Union on Jan. 12. The win against the Dutchwomen snapped a four-game skid. Quinnipiac and Wayne State have played eight common opponents: Princeton, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, Rensselaer, Colgate, Cornell, Robert Morris and Connecticut. The Bobcats are 3-7, while the Warriors are 6-8.
Hayley McMeekin leads the team in assists (11), points (19) and power-play goals (4). Elyse Cole is tops with nine goals and Ashley Jaffray leads the team with two short-handed tallies.
Laura Brennan has seen the majority of time between the pipes and has a record of 6-15-0 record, a 4.14 goals-against average and a .861 save percentage.
Quinnipiac has converted 19-of-151 (.127) power-play opportunities and killed 121-of-163 (.742) opponent chances.
Up Ahead
The Warriors continue their eight-game road trip with a visit at Robert Morris. Last season, Wayne State won all four meetings, outscoring the Colonials, 22-3.
