Freshmen Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) and Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) each earned a College Hockey America award this week. DiPietro is the offensive player of the week, while Poyton was named rookie of the week.

After having just three points in her previous eight games, DiPietro totaled six points in last weekend's series sweep at Robert Morris. She assisted on WSU's last three goals in Friday's 4-2 win, including the game-winning goal and a power-play goal. She followed that performance by scoring the lone goal of the of the first period and assisting on both second-period goals, including the game-winner, as the Warriors skated to a 4-1 victory.

DiPietro also recorded 11 shots on goal and a plus/minus rating of +4 for the series. Additionally, her five assists in the series tied a school record.

Poyton also had a productive series at RMU, as she tallied five points on the weekend. She assisted on the first goal of the game in the opening period on Friday and scored her 18th of the year in the second period to put the Warriors up 2-0. Similarly, she assisted on the first goal and scored the second on Saturday, and added an additional assist in the Wayne State win. Poyton had 13 shots on goal and a plus/minus rating of +5 for the series.

The two freshmen have combined to win seven CHA awards this season. For DiPietro, it marks her third offensive honor, as she won the award in consecutive weeks, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. She also earned the rookie award for Nov. 29. Poyton, meanwhile, has earned the rookie award twice (Nov. 1) and the offensive award once (Nov. 22).

The Warriors are idle this weekend before beginning a six-game homestand. CHA rival Mercyhurst comes to Detroit for WSU's next series, Feb. 10-11.
