Freshman Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) has been named the College Hockey America Offensive Player of the Week following her five-point performance in last weekend's series against Niagara.
Boal scored the Warriors' first and last goals, and assisted on another, in Friday's 4-0 shutout victory. She had a plus/minus rating of +3 and tallied five shots on goal.
The next night, Boal assisted on each of Wayne State's power-play goals as the Warriors came from behind to win the game, 3-2, and sweep the series.
Boal has earned four CHA weekly awards this season. She earned offensive player of the week honors on Oct. 18, and the rookie award two consecutive weeks (Nov. 15 and Nov. 22).
Just 30 games into her collegiate career, Boal has etched her name in the record books of both Wayne State women's hockey and the CHA. She is the WSU single-season record holder for points (38) and assists (22), and is first among CHA rookies all-time in shots on goal (158) and tied-for-first in assists.
The Warriors play their final home games of the regular season this weekend, Feb. 24-25, against CHA foe Robert Morris.
