Detroit, Mich. - Women's hockey head coach Jim Fetter and his staff announced the 2006-07 winners of the team awards this afternoon at Historic St. Andrew's. Sophomore forward Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders), who led the team in goals (28) and points (48) and also became the program's all-time scoring leader, was named Most Valuable Player and Top Gun as the team's leading scorer. Boal had 11 power-play goals, two short-handed tallies and three game-winning markers.
Freshman defenseman Christine Jefferson (Nepean, Ontario/Merivale), who had five goals and four assists for nine points, was named the team's Most Improved Player. She had one power-play goal and one game-winning marker.
Rookie of the Year accolades went to forward Brandi Frakie (St. Louis Park, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds), who led all freshmen in points with 15 on nine goals and six assists. She had three power-play goals, recorded her first career short-handed marker at Mercyhurst on Feb. 17, and led the team with three game-winning tallies.
Sophomore blueliner Tina Vanderhoeven (London, Ontario/London Juniors) was named Best Defenseman after posting three goals and nine assists for 12 points. All three of her lamplighters came with the man-advantage and she also had one game-winning goal.
Junior forward Ashley King (Winnipeg, Manitoba/River East Lightning) was given the Warrior Award after having a three goal, three assist season. Two of her markers were game-winners.
Sophomore forward Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) was given the President's Award. She was tied for second on the team in points (37) and led the squad with 30 assists. Four of her seven goals came on the power-play.
Captain's Award went to co-leaders senior forward Laura Monk (Mississauga, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres) and Ashley King. Monk recorded three goals and nine assists for 12 points. One of the goals came on the power-play.
