Wayne State University senior hockey player Ashley King (Winnipeg, Man.) was voted to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV University Division Women's At-Large Second Team.

King was in the University Division, which consists of Division I student-athletes, because WSU competes in Division I in ice hockey.

She was one of five national finalists in the collegiate division for the John Wooden Citizen Cup, which is an award given for the most outstanding role model among athletes. King was also one of eight national finalists for the 2008 Hockey Humanitarian Award, which is presented to college hockey's finest citizen. On the ice, she recorded 10 points and served as a team captain for the third straight year. She also was named to the College Hockey America (CHA) All-Academic squad for the third consecutive season.

The District IV Academic team was selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) located in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.

The At-Large team represents athletes from the following women's sports: bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball and water polo.
