Women's Hockey Player Receives National Academic Award

Wayne State University women's hockey player Ashley King (Winnipeg, Manitoba) has received AWHCA (American Women's Hockey Coaches Association) National Academic Scholar honors.

The honor is bestowed upon those with outstanding academic achievement while participating in collegiate women's ice hockey. The student-athlete must have been in attendance at her present institution for one year, have a 3.5 GPA or better over two semesters, dressed in 75% of games, and be a member in good standing with her team and school.

This past season, King served as an assistant captain while playing in all 35 games. She was named to the College Hockey America All-Academic Team and earned Wayne State's women's hockey President's Award for academic success. She scored the first goal of the game on Oct. 14 vs. St. Lawrence and assisted on the first goal of the game on Jan. 14 at Mercyhurst. She had a season-high four shots on goal Jan. 28 at Robert Morris.
