Wayne State University women's hockey coach Jim Fetter announced today that Emily Berzins (Fort McMurray, Alberta) has transferred to WSU from Mercyhurst College.
"We are excited to have Emily come to our team," said Fetter. "She has played on a winning team and we will look to her to bring that experience here to Wayne State."
Berzins played in all 37 games for Mercyhurst in 2005-06 recording two assists and a plus/minus rating of +3. She had assists in back-to-back games (Dec. 9-10) at Robert Morris.
She played her last two years of high school at Warner Hockey School for coach Jamie Wood. Berzins helped Warner to a first-place AMMFHL finish in 2004-05 and earned the Coach's Award while also serving as an assistant captain.
She recorded 31 points on 12 goals and 19 assists for Warner with 50 penalty minutes in 2004-05. Berzins was second on the squad with 16 goals in 2003-04 and contributed six assists for 22 points with 36 penalty minutes.
