WARRIORS OFF TO NORTHEASTERN: The Wayne State University women's hockey team prepares for its third road swing of the season with a two-game series at Northeastern (Nov. 10-11). The series between WSU and Northeastern is tied 2-2-0 with the Warriors winning the last meeting, 2-0, on Feb. 1, 2003. Wayne State enters the contest with a 4-4-0 overall record and 2-2-0 mark in road contests this season.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Northeastern is a member of Hockey East and enters this weekend series with a 1-6-1 (1-1-0 Hockey East) mark. The Huskies are coming off their first win of the season, defeating Providence, 5-4 (Nov. 6). Freshman Kristi Kehoe leads the team offensively with 10 points (five goals, five assists). Northeastern is under the direction of head coach Laura Schuler who is in her third season.

FOUR-GAME STREAK SNAPPED: WSU saw its four-game win streak come to an end, dropping a home series to #4 St. Lawrence with 5-3 and 5-2 setbacks at City Sports Ice Arena (Nov. 2-3). In game one (Nov. 2), the team rallied from a 3-0 deficit but came up short on Skate for the Cure Night. The Warriors were led by junior Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) who scored two second period goals just 1:42 apart to earn No. 3 star honors of the game. In the series finale (Nov. 3), junior Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders) led WSU with two points on a goal and assist to earn No. 3 star honors. Boal took advantage of a St. Lawrence turnover taking the puck on a feed from Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres), skating down the right side and pulling the puck across the left side to beat Megan Guckian to pull WSU within one, 3-2. However, that was the closest WSU would get as the Saints added two more goals to secure a 5-2 victory.

AMONG THE NATION'S BEST: Boal is currently riding a six-game points streak accumulating 19 points (11 goals, eight assists). Boal ranks third in the nation in points-per-game (2.38, 19 total), goals-per-game (1.38, 11 total) power-play goals (3,.38 ppg, three total) and eighth in assists per game (1.00, eight total). DiPietro is fourth in the country in assists-per-game (1.38, 11 total) and sixth in points-per-game (1.88, 15 total). Poyton ranks third on the team with 13 points (six goals, seven assists). She also ranks third in the nation in power-play goals (3,.38 ppg, three total) and game-winning goals (3 total), 10th in points per-game (1.62, 13 total), goals-per-game (.75, 6 total) and 23rd in assist-per-game (.88, seven total).

FRANCK HIRED AS ASSISTANT COACH: Nicolette Franck has been named assistant coach of the Wayne State women's hockey team. Franck, a former goaltender at Yale University, brings a vast level of coaching experience to the Warriors. "Nicolette is the final piece to our coaching staff and I am excited to have her aboard," said Head Coach Jim Fetter. "Her coaching experience and knowledge of the game will be a huge asset that our players will certainly benefit from." Franck has coached at various levels over the past decade, including three years with the Etobicoke Dolphins in Ontario. Beginning as a goaltenders coach for the Midget A squad in 2004, Franck moved all the way up to the head coach position of the Intermediate AA team in 2007. In her four years at Yale, Franck compiled a .878 save percentage with a 4.23 goals-against average in 45 games, while her career total of 1120 saves ranks eighth all-time in Yale history. She was awarded the Bulldog Award for grit, courage and dedication in 2004 and was named a National Strength and Conditioning Association All-American.

HIGH POWERED OFFENSE: The WSU women's hockey team is ranked second in the conference and eighth in the country in scoring offense with 26 goals (3.25 g/gm).

SEASON-HIGH STREAK: With Wayne State's sweep of Cornell (Oct. 26-27), the team compiled a season-high four-game win streak. The last time WSU won four games in a row was during the 2005-06 season when the Warriors swept consecutive two-game series against Niagara and Robert Morris. During the 2004-05 season, the Green and Gold set the school mark with six straight wins.
