Warrior freshmen Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) and Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) rank among the top players in several categories of this week's NCAA national rankings.
Poyton, whose CHA-leading 12 goals set a new school single-season rookie record for goals after just 16 games this season, is ranked 11th in the nation in goals per game (0.75) and fifth in game-winning goals (3).
Boal is ranked 19th in points per game (1.31) and 16th in assists per game (0.81). She is rapidly approaching new WSU rookie records for points (21) and assists (13) in a season.
Additionally, both Boal and Poyton are ranked ninth with four power-play goals.
As a team, Wayne State is ninth with a .870 penalty-killing percentage, 18th with a .144 power-play percentage, 17th in scoring defense (2.50), and 18th in winning percentage (.438).
The Warriors are idle this weekend before traveling to Princeton for a two-game series, Dec. 9-10.
