Wayne State University women's hockey head coach Jim Fetter has announced the winners of the 2007-08 team awards at the season-end banquet held at Andiamo Restaurant in Downtown Detroit. Junior forward Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) was named team Most Valuable Player along with receiving the Top Gun award given to the team's leading scorer. Senior goalie Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan) was selected Best Defensive Player and also received the Most Improved award. Senior forward Ashley King (Winnipeg, Man./River East Lightning) and sophomore defenseman Christine Jefferson (Nepean, Ont./NCCP Junior Raiders) were both President Award winners holding back-to-back 4.0 gpa semesters. King also received the Warrior and Captain's awards while the Rookie of the Year award went to freshman forward Janet Babchishin (Sturgis, Sask./Saskatchewan Prairie Ice). (more)

Wayne State University head women's hockey coach Jim Fetter has been named 2007-08 American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Division I Women's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year. The Coach of the Year Award winner is chosen by members of the AHCA and will receive the award at the annual AHCA Coach of the Year Banquet, held in conjunction with the AHCA Convention in Naples, Fla. This year's banquet is scheduled for Saturday, April 26. (more)
