Decatur, Ala. - The Wayne State University women's softball squad kicked-off its 2007 campaign with a 1-0 triumph over Truman State (0-1) in the opening round of the UAH Charger Chillout being held at the Wilson-Morgan Softball Complex.
Senior hurler Sarah Ytsma (Chatham, Ont./McGregor S.S.) tossed a five-hit shutout for her 11th career shutout. She struck out two and walked one in the first inning.
The Warriors tallied the lone run in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore Sarah Teller (Chesterfield Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) drew a leadoff walk and sophomore Amanda Van't Wout (Guelph, Ont./Guelph Collegiate V.I.) followed with a single. Freshman Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont./Forest Heights C.I.) advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, and following an out, junior Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont./Acton) singled plating Teller.
WSU faces region foe Southern Indiana at 3 p.m. Eastern today.
