Decatur, Ala. - The Wayne State University softball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a five-inning 8-0 triumph over 23rd-ranked Southern Indiana (2-4) Friday afternoon in round three of the UAH Charger Chillout.

Junior Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont./Glenview Park. S.S.) struck out 12 Screaming Eagle batters in her Warrior debut allowing just one hit (a double leading off the second inning) and one walk (with two outs in the top of the first). She retired the final 12 batters following the two-bagger by USI's Audra Lindenschmidt, including seven on strikes.

WSU snapped a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the third. Junior Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont./Acton) singled with one out and classmate Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont./Waterloo C.I.) followed with a single up the middle. Junior Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) doubled to left scoring pinch-runner Sarah Teller (Chesterfield Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) and Meredith Boxberger (Canton, Mich.) added a two-run double to right center.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Warriors rally was started by Berry who drew a leadoff walk. Haig walked and Perry reached on sacrifice bunt with an error to load the bases. Boxberger's RBI single plated Berry, while sophomore Lisa Seymour (Davison, Mich.) singled up the middle scoring Haig. Sophomore Amanda Van't Wout (Guelph, Ont./Guelph Collegiate V.I.) followed suit with an RBI single. After a fielder's choice, freshman Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont./Forest Heights C.I.) walked to score Seymour. Pinch-hitter Katie Golub's (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) single ended the game because of the eight-run rule.

Wayne State will play two more games on Saturday, Feb. 24 versus Northern Kentucky (11 a.m.) and Kentucky Wesleyan (1 p.m.).
