Decatur, Ala. - The Wayne State University softball team (1-1 overall) concluded the first day at the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout by recording a 2-1 triumph over Northern Kentucky.
The Norse took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third as Jenny Weis had a leadoff infield single then stole second and third before scoring on a single by Amanda Smith.
The Warriors tied the game in the top of the fifth as Lindsey Perry had a one-out single. After a sac bunt by Jaci Banton, Sarah Berry delivered an RBI single.
In the top of the seventh, Lisa Seymour had a leadoff single and advanced to second on a wild pitch following a pop out. After fouling off a 3-2 offering, Perry singled up the middle scoring Seymour with the winning run.
WSU senior hurler Molly Yetman went the distance striking out 12 and allowing just four hits. April Ehlers tossed a complete game for NKU recording two strikeouts.
Both Perry and Berry had two hits to pace a seven-hit Warrior attack. Also recording base hits were Sarah Teller, Stephanie LeClair and Seymour.
WSU is scheduled to play in-region foes Kentucky Wesleyan and Indianapolis on Sunday in Decatur, Ala.
