Kissimmee, Fla. - The Wayne State University softball team (12-9 overall) concluded its participation in the Rebel Spring Games with a 4-2 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside (5-4) Saturday evening.
The Warriors won their final four games in Florida and seven of their last eight.
WSU took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After the first two batters were retired, Sarah Berry singled to left, advanced to third on a single by Meredith Boxberger and scored on a single by Robyn Haig.
The Rangers tallied two runs in the bottom of the first on a single, a walk, a pair of wild pitches and a two-run double by Katrina Homa.
Wayne State completed the scoring with three runs in the top of the third. Lindsey Perry had a leadoff single and, after a fielder's choice, Berry's double scored Perry with the tying run. Haig's one-double plated Amanda Van't Wout and Berry with the game-winning run.
Senior Molly Yetman improved to 10-2 with seven strikeouts and four walks. She allowed four hits and two earned runs.
WSU outhit UWP 8-4 with Perry, Berry and Haig each recording two hits. Haig drove in three of Wayne State's four runs.
Wayne State returns to Motown to host the WSU Invitational on Saturday, March 22. Lake Superior, Hillsdale and Ferris State will participate in the round-robin one-day tournament.
