Findlay, Ohio - The Wayne State University softball team (11-14 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) extended its winning streak to five games with a 9-5 victory in the nightcap at the University of Findlay (7-19 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) on Saturday.
Wayne State scored four times in the bottom of the second snapping a 1-1 tie. The GLIAC switches the home team for the second game of a conference doubleheader.
Junior Sarah Ytsma (Chatham, Ont./McGregor) evened her record at 4-4 by striking out three and walking two in seven innings. It was her second straight victory.
WSU's first run came in the bottom of the first as Becky Quinn (Ortonville, Mich./Oakland Christian) was hit by a pitch and scored on Sarah Berry's (Acton, Ont.) two-out triple.
In the next inning, Jordan Sinclair (Chatham, Ont./Chatham Kent S.S.) had a leadoff single and scored on an Oiler error. Quinn walked with two outs and scored, along with Lisa Seymour (Davison, Mich.), on a double by Sarah Kish (St. Catharines, Ont./St. Francis S.S.). Kish came across home plate on a single by Berry.
The Warriors tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Kish, a two-run double by Berry and an RBI double by Sinclair.
Berry went three-for-four with four runs batted including a double and a triple to extend her hitting streak to nine games (14-31, .452). She has four consecutive multi-hit games and tied a WSU season-best with four RBI in a game.
Kish and Sinclair each added two hits with Kish driving in three runs. Kish also extended her hitting streak to six games (10-16, .625) during which she has seven RBI. Sinclair has an RBI in four straight contests.
WSU continues its road trip with a league doubleheader at Ashland (Ohio) on Sunday.
