DETROIT - The Wayne State University softball team (15-16 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) banged out 13 hits including six for extra bases in defeating Gannon University (22-9, 3-1 GLIAC) 11-1 in the second game of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) twinbill Saturday afternoon at the WSU Softball Stadium.

The Golden Knights, the home team for the second game per GLIAC rules, took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a home run by Allison Gerger.

The Warriors rebounded with a six-run fourth inning. Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.) doubled leading off the frame, and after Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) was hit by a 2-0 pitch, Sarah Kish's (St. Catharines, Ont./St. Francis S.S.) sacrifice bunt advanced both runners. Anna Schneider (Detroit, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) walked to load the bases and freshman Lisa Seymour (Davison, Mich.) followed with her first career extra-base hit, a two-run double to center. After a strikeout, Sue Verbeem's (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich Secondary) double to right center scored Schneider and Seymour. Kadie Ondrus then replaced Jenn Kulick in the circle for Gannon and was greeted by a two-run home run by Becky Quinn (Ortonville, Mich./Oakland Christian) on a 3-1 offering.

Wayne State tacked on five runs in the top of the fifth. Perry singled and was safe at second on Kish's bunt as Ondrus' throw was late to second base. Schneider's sacrifice bunt advanced both runners. Seymour's single plated Perry with Kish scoring on an error in the Gannon outfield. Laura Guzman's (Royal Oak, Mich./Bishop Foley) sacrifice bunt moved Seymour to third and she scored on Verbeem's single. Quinn then drilled a 2-2 pitch over the left centerfield fence for her second four-bagger of the contest.

Jordan Sinclair (Chatham, Ont./Chatham Kent S.S.) went the distance allowing just two hits and one run. She struck out seven and walked eight. Kulick allowed five earned runs in 3.2 innings, while Ondrus was tagged for six earned runs in 1.1 innings.

Wayne State continues its homestand with a league doubleheader on Sunday against Mercyhurst starting at 1 p.m. at the WSU Softball Stadium.

Becky Quinn set a WSU season-high with nine total bases and completed the doubleheader six-for-seven with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored.
