Indianapolis, Ind. - The Wayne State University softball team (20-9 overall) suffered an 8-1 setback at Indianapolis (18-11) Monday afternoon in the second game of a twinbill.

The Warriors started strong with a run in the top of the first as junior Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) led off the game with an infield single then stole second. A sacrifice bunt by senior Sarah Kish (St. Catharines, Ont.) moved Perry to third and she scored on a single to left by junior Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.).

The Greyhounds tied the score in the bottom of the frame as Amanda Wendlinger homered to right field on the first pitch of the inning.

UI scored four times in the second on a walk, a fielder's choice and two hits, one being a grand slam by Wendlinger. In the third, Greyhound Megan Russell homered off reliever Lauren Warkentien (East China, Mich.).

Indianapolis' final two runs came in the fifth on back-to-back doubles and a single off reliever Nicole Abel (Kitchener, Ont.).

After the first inning, WSU managed just two hits - a single by Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont.) in the fourth, and a pinch-hit single by Katie Golub (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) in the seventh.

Wayne State is playing host to Ferris State on Thursday in a GLIAC doubleheader. The twinbill originally scheduled to be played at FSU as a non-league affair, was switched to WSU after last Saturday's conference doubleheader was postponed.
