Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University softball team (20-10 overall, 3-2 GLIAC) was shutout 3-0 in the opening game of a conference doubleheader at Northwood (13-11 overall, 4-1 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon.

NU starting pitcher Sheena Smith held the Warrior bats in check allowing just two singles - a one-out single in the top of the first by Sarah Kish (St. Catharines, Ont./St. Francis S.S.); and a one-out single in the fourth by Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont./Waterloo C.I.).

WSU junior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont./Glenview Park. S.S.) allowed just two earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. It was Yetman's first setback since March 12 as she had won her last eight decisions.

Haig's hit in the fourth extended her hitting streak to six games.

NU's Sam Thacker homered to left center leading off the bottom of the second. The Timberwolves scored a run in the bottom of the fourth on a single, a sacrifice bunt which moved the runner to third and a sacrifice fly. The game's final run came in the bottom of the sixth on back-to-back singles, a sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice.
