Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University softball squad (21-10 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) snapped its two-game losing skid with a 2-1 triumph at Northwood University (13-12 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) in the second game of Saturday's twinbill.
The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as junior first baseman Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) had a leadoff double to left. Senior catcher Sarah Kish (St. Catharines, Ont./St. Francis S.S.) followed with her team-leading 10th sacrifice bunt. Junior Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.) then contributed her team-best fourth sacrifice fly scoring Perry.
The Timberwolves would knot the score in the top of the second on a walk and two singles.
Kish would start the winning rally in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff double to right. Berry's sacrifice bunt advanced Kish to third. Following a groundout, junior Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont./Waterloo C.I.) laced a triple to center field plating Kish. It was Haig's second career three-bagger, in 128 collegiate games. It also extended her hitting streak to seven games.
Freshman Nicole Abel (Kitchener, Ont./St. Mary's) won her third straight decision in the circle for WSU to improve to 6-3 on the season. It was her first decision since March 25 against Ferris State.
Northwood had runners on base in four of the seven innings including two on in both the second and fourth frames.
WSU managed just six hits in the two games at Northwood, the lowest back-to-back game totals this season. Haig, with two hits, had her fifth multiple-hit game of the season.
