DETROIT - The Wayne State University softball squad (28-10, 13-3 GLIAC) recorded its second consecutive 5-0 victory over visiting Lake Superior State University (6-33, 0-16 GLIAC) in game two of Friday's GLIAC twinbill.
The Warriors struck first with a run in the top of the first. Amanda Van't Wout walked with one out and advanced to third on a single up the middle by Rebecca Stanley. Following a line out, Stephanie LeClair singled on an 0-1 pitch scoring Van't Wout.
LeClair led off the fourth with an infield single and was sacrificed to second by Becca Ryan. Jaci Banton's infield single advanced LeClair to third, while Lisa Seymour's single scored LeClair making it 2-0. Nicole Abel's single through the left side plated Banton, with both runners moving up an extra base on the throw. Seymour scored on Alison Allen's ground out, with Abel scoring on Van't Wout's double to left center.
Abel allowed just three singles in recording her sixth win of the season against only three losses. She struck out three and walked four.
Jillian Willette (2-14) surrendered five earned runs on 12 hits in seven innings of work. She struck out one and walked two.
Wayne State concludes its six-game home stand with a Saturday doubleheader against Lake Erie College. Before the first pitch at 1 p.m., the five seniors will be honored.
