Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - The 25th-ranked Wayne State University softball team, playing for the third straight day, began the doubleheader with a 10-1 triumph at Lake Superior Monday afternoon.

The Warriors improve to 29-13 overall and 8-5 in the GLIAC, while the Lakers fall to 6-29 overall and 1-14 in the GLIAC.

WSU scored twice in the top of the first as Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) had a leadoff single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sarah Kish (St. Catharines, Ont.), her team-leading 12th sac bunt of the campaign.

Perry advanced to third as Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.) reached on an error, then scored on a Meredith Boxberger (Canton, Mich.) single. A groundout moved up both runners with Berry scoring on a Lisa Seymour (Davison, Mich.) single.

The score remained 2-0 until the top of the fifth when Boxberger had a leadoff walk and Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont.) singled. Seymour's sacrifice bunt advanced both runners and following a walk to Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont.), Lauren Warkentien (East China, Mich./Marine City) walked with the bases loaded scoring Boxberger.

In the next inning, the Warriors tacked on three more runs. Berry drew a one-out walk and Boxberger singled. Seymour singled after a fielder's choice to load the bases. LeClair greeted relief pitcher Stephanie Reveley with a two-run double. Amanda Van't Wout (Guelph, Ont.) followed with an RBI single.

WSU pounded out six hits in the seventh inning to score four more runs. Perry, Kish, and Berry all singled to score Perry. A Boxberger single loaded the bases, and Haig followed with a two-run single. Boxberger then scored on a single by Seymour.

Meanwhile, Wayne State junior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.) retired the first 13 LSSU batters until a one-out walk in the fifth. Her shutout bid was foiled by a seventh inning leadoff home run by Nicole Dunford. For the contest, Yetman struck out 10 and walked two while allowing the one run on three hits to improve to 15-2.
