DETROIT - The 25th-ranked Wayne State University softball squad (32-13 overall, 11-5 GLIAC) completed its GLIAC doubleheader sweep of visiting Ashland University (27-18 overall, 9-9 GLIAC) with a 2-0 triumph in the second game Friday afternoon at the WSU Softball Stadium.

WSU junior Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.), who pitched a perfect game earlier in the day, blanked the Eagles on two hits in her six innings of work. Freshman Nicole Abel (Kitchener, Ont.) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for her first collegiate save. Yetman retired the first five AU hitters until a single by Angie Westenkirchner with two outs in the second. Dating back to last Monday's twinbill at Lake Superior, Molly had retired 32 consecutive batters.

Yetman had seven strikeouts and no walks in the contest to finish the day with 19 strikeouts, no walks and two hits allowed in 13 innings. She has allowed one run in her last 51 innings dating back to April 14.

Neither team was able to generate much offense against the ace of both pitching staffs. WSU left four runners on base in the first three innings against AU's Jaime Williams.

Despite the fact Williams had retired 10 straight Warrior batters, junior Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont.) led off the top of the seventh with a single up the middle. Lisa Seymour's (Davison, Mich.) sacrifice bunt moved Haig to second. Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont.) followed with a single to shallow center field that Haig had to wait to make sure it dropped and LeClair advanced to second on the throw to third. Sophomore Sarah Teller (Chesterfield Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) followed by lacing the next pitch up the middle scoring both runners.

Wayne State will conclude regular-season league play with doubleheaders at home on Saturday (1 p.m. vs. Findlay) and Sunday (1 p.m. vs. Ferris State). WSU finishes the regular-season with a non-league twinbill at home on Tuesday against Detroit at 3 p.m.
