The Warriors and Northwood tied for the regular-season title with 15 wins but WSU will be the No. 1 seed for next weekend's league tournament in Midland after sweeping the Timberwolves (2-1, 10-3) in Detroit on April 14.

Wayne State had two one-run leads (1-0, 2-1) but had to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

After a sac bunt by senior Jordan Sinclair (Chatham, Ont./Chatham Kent S.S.), sophomore Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont./Waterloo C.I.) followed with an infield single moving Verbeem to third. Two batters later, Verbeem scored on a passed ball.

After the Lakers had tied the game in the top of the third, the Warriors responded in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) singled up the middle with two outs, and senior Amanda Dowe (Truro, Nova Scotia) followed with an RBI double.

GVSU scored once in the fifth and took its first lead with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh.

Wayne State would not give up scoring once in the bottom of the seventh as Perry doubled to center field with two outs. Dowe singled up the middle scoring Perry with the tying run.

The Lakers tallied one in the top of the eighth after the first two batters were retired on a single, a fielding error and an RBI single.
