Edwardsville, Ill. - The Wayne State University softball game vs. SIU-Edwardsville that started early Saturday evening was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Cougars leading 5-3.
There was 1:46 rain delay in the bottom of the fourth. Once play resumed the bottom of the fourth and the top of fifth were played. In the bottom of the fifth, WSU had scored twice and had two runners on when lightning moved into the area around Cougar Field. The lightning along with heavy rains forced the game to be suspended.
The winner of this contest will face Ferris State at 2:30 p.m. Eastern. If the Bulldogs win that game they will advance to the NCAA College World Series. If FSU is upended, the "if necessary" game will take place to determine the Great Lakes Regional champion.
