Edwardsville, Ill. - The Wayne State University softball team (32-26) had its 2006 season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to Gannon (40-17) in an elimination game at the 2006 NCAA Great Lakes Regional being hosted by SIU-Edwardsville.
The Golden Knights scored twice in the top of the second. Allison Gerger had a leadoff double to left center as the ball hit just below the top of the fence at the 220' mark. After a ground out, Steph Christ singled down the right field line. Kara Hensley followed with a single to right center moving Christ to third, and she scored on a fielder's choice.
Gannon added a run in the top of the fourth as Christ had a leadoff walk on a 3-2 pitch. Following a strikeout and a sac bunt, Hannah Koenig had an RBI single to left.
In the top of the sixth, Christ had a leadoff single and pinch-runner Kristina Damis scored on a double by Hensley.
The Warriors lone run came in the bottom of the sixth as Robyn Haig had a leadoff single. A ground out by Lindsey Perry moved Haig to second and she advanced to third on a ground out by Jordan Sinclair. Sarah Kish followed with an RBI single through the left side.
WSU had four two-out hits: Sarah Berry singled in both the first and third innings, Sarah Kish doubled in the fourth, and Amanda Dowe singled in the fourth. Wayne State went three-for-11 with runners on base.
Seniors Meghan Misiak and Jordan Sinclair pitched for Wayne State. Misiak allowed three runs (all earned) on six hits in four innings with three strikeouts. Sinclair tossed the final three innings surrendering just one run on three hits with one strikeout and no walks.
It was the final collegiate game for four Wayne State seniors: Amanda Dowe, Meghan Misiak, Jordan Sinclair and Sue Verbeem.
