April 26, 2007

Wayne State University junior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.) was selected Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of Week by the national office.

Yetman posted a perfect 3-0 mark in the circle as Wayne State won five games on the week (April 16-22).

The Cambridge, Ontario, native hurled 23 scoreless innings, allowing 11 hits and seven walks while striking out 33.

She left the week's opening game against Hillsdale with an illness after pitching two innings in which she allowed a trio of hits. She came back strong the following day, however, going the distance and allowing three hits in a 4-0 win over Grand Valley State, the No.2 team out of the Great Lakes region in the latest NCAA regional rankings.

She followed that outing with a one-hit blanking of Quincy before allowing a pair of hits over two innings of the final game of the doubleheader.

Yetman closed the week with a complete-game effort against Missouri-St. Louis in which she surrendered a single hit, her fourth one-hitter of the season, and walked one. The run-rule shutout was the 11th of the season for the hurler, giving her the school single season record for shutouts.

Molly is currently ranked nationally in four categories: second in earned-run average (0.39), third in strikeouts per seven innings (11.4), 33rd in saves (2) and 81st in victories (14 - she earned two more wins on Monday).

Also listed among the national leaders were Meredith Boxberger (27th in toughest to strikeout (0.03 - four times in 128 at bats), Lindsey Perry (53rd in doubles per game), and Sarah Ytsma (97th in saves).

Wayne State was also ranked in four team categories:

32nd in ERA (2.03)

45th in winning percentage (.683)

59th in fielding percentage (.959)

74th in batting average (.302)

All NCAA statistical rankings were through Sunday's games and do not include the doubleheader at Lake Superior on Monday.
