The Wayne State University softball team is fifth in this week's NCAA Division II Softball Regional Rankings.
The Warriors are 27-20 overall after splitting a non-league doubleheader at Division I Oakland University on Tuesday.
WSU leads the GLIAC with a 13-3 mark and is followed by Ashland (12-4), Northwood (13-5) and Gannon (10-6).
The NCAA has expanded the NCAA tournament to 64 teams this year with the top eight in each region qualifying including the automatic qualifiers. There are three automatic qualifiers in the Great Lakes Region (GLIAC, GLVC and WVIAC). The No. 1 seed in the region will serve as the host if they meet NCAA requirements.
Wayne State concludes its conference schedule with twinbills at Ferris State (Friday) and at Grand Valley (Saturday).
The GLIAC tournament begins on Friday, May 5 in Midland, Mich.
