The Wayne State University softball team (39-15 overall) despite having the most in-region wins of any school in the three conference region (GLIAC, GLVC, WVIAC) and earning the GLIAC's automatic bid was seeded fifth by the regional ranking committee for this week's NCAA Great Lakes Regional. It will be WSU's 13th NCAA tournament appearance under coach Gary Bryce.

SIU-Edwardsville, the GLVC co-regular season champion and tournament champion was seeded first. Lewis, the host school and GLVC co-regular season champion along with a GLVC tournament runner-up finish was seeded second.

Gannon, who won the GLIAC tournament and was the GLIAC co-champion with Wayne State, was seeded third. Grand Valley was placed fourth in the region, while the Warriors were fifth.

Ferris State, who finished second in the GLIAC regular season, was seeded sixth while Missouri-Rolla was placed seventh. Shepherd, who won the WVIAC tournament, was seeded eighth.

WSU will play Grand Valley on Thursday in the opening round.

The Warriors are 16-4 in their last 20 contests, while Grand Valley and Gannon are 11-9 and 15-5 (in-region), respectively.
