DETROIT - The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team entered Friday night's meet versus ninth-ranked Grand Valley two places behind the visiting Lakers as WSU was ranked 11th nationally.

The Warriors won eight of the 11 individual events including two by freshman Melissa Duff (Howell, Mich./Brighton) to swim past GVSU 140-103 at the WSU Matthaei Aquatic Center. Duff won both the 500 and 1000 free.

Also recording event victories for Wayne State were: junior Mandy Burton (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) in the 200 free, freshman Brooke White (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) in the 50 free, senior Lindsey O'Neill (Dearborn Hts., Mich./Crestwood) in one-meter diving, sophomore Katie Harrigan (Portage, Mich./Northern) in the 100 back, sophomore Erika Barczak (Williamston, Mich.) in three-meter diving and sophomore Amber Staudacher (Rockford, Mich.) in the 100 breast.

Burton also placed second in the 500 free and 1000 free as Wayne State had eight second-place individuals. Also recording second-place finishes were: Harrigan in the 200 IM, Barczak in one-meter diving, junior Christy Koehler (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lake Shore) in both 200 free and 100 fly, freshman Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.) in the 100 free and junior Erin Hill (Holt, Mich.) in the 100 back.

Wayne State has a home meet on Saturday, Jan. 14 versus Calvin.
