ASHLAND, Ohio - Through the first two events held Wednesday night, the Wayne State women's swimming and diving team is in first place, holding a seven-point lead over Grand Valley State at the 2007 GLIAC Championship, hosted by Ashland University.

Indianapolis (57) trails the Warriors (76) and Lakers (69), followed by the host Eagles (48), Gannon (40), Lewis (37), Northern Michigan (31), Hillsdale (30), and Findlay (21).

The WSU quartet of Katie Harrigan (Portage, Mich./Northern), Amber Staudacher (Rockford, Mich.), Laura Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern), and Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.) finished in fourth place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.04, setting a new WSU record by .04 seconds.

Melissa Duff set a pool record with her first-place time of 17:31.19 in the 1650 freestyle, successfully defending her conference title in the mile-long event. Also earning points for Wayne State were Maggie Young (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne's) in fourth place (18:00.55), Tiffanie Laforet (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne's) in 10th (18:27.08), and Whitney Baker (Trenton, Mich.) in 13th place (18:33.26).

Preliminary rounds for Thursday's events will begin at 10:30 a.m.
