BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team maintained its 10th-place position after the final day of competition at the NCAA Division II Championship, held at the Flickenger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Warriors totaled 139 points on the way to their best national finish in school history, topping the 17th-place standard set in 2000.
Drury University won the 2007 championship with 646.5 points, followed by runner-up Truman State University (518).
In Saturday's finals, Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison), the top seed in the 1650 freestyle, broke her own school record in the event by 5.5 seconds, finishing second in a time of 17:09.13 and earning First Team All-America honors. Melissa Duff (Howell, Mich./Brighton) posted a time of 17:33.68 to finish ninth and gain an Honorable Mention.
The 400 free relay of Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich./Allen Park), St. Andrew, Katie Harrigan (Portage, Mich./Northern), and Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) came in 14th (3:35.23) for Honorable Mention All-America accolades.
