Women's Swimming Defeats Two GLIAC Schools

Results

Marquette, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team ventured to Marquette for a triangular meet and came away with a pair of victories, 193-95 over Hillsdale and 201-99 over Northern Michigan.

Leading the Warriors was the 200 medley relay team of Erin Hill (Holt, Mich.), Amber Staudacher (Rockford, Mich.), Katie Harrigan (Portage, Mich./Northern) and Brooke White (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview), which placed first in a time of 1:54.50.

The 200 medley relay "B" team of Stephanie Cummings (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson), Ashley Scott (Windsor, Ont./Riverside S.S.), Kim Gammon (Howell, Mich.) and Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.) placed third in a time of 2:00.26.

Harrigan won the 100 back (1:02.49), while Hill was second (1:04.30). Harrigan also won the 200 back (2:15.15).

Staudacher won the 100 breast (1:08.93) and 200 breast (2:30.86).

WSU took the top three places in the 1000 free with Melissa Duff (Howell, Mich./Brighton) recording a winning time of 10:58.69. Alina Corrion (Howell, Mich.) was second (11:10.49) and Tiffanie Laforet (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Annes) was third (11:14.95).

Mandy Burton (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) won the 200 free (2:01.13), while Duff was second (2:03.48).

Amanda Marshall (Berkley, Mich.) won the 200 free (2:07.49), while White was second in the 50 free (25.58).

In the 100 free, WSU went 2-3 with White finishing second (55.92) and Burton placing third (56.71).

Wayne State took the top four places in the 500 free: Duff (1st/5:18.95), Corrion (2nd/5:27.30), Burton (3rd/5:27.49) and Laforet (4th/5:31.13).

In the diving competition, Lindsey O'Neill (Dearborn Hts., Mich./Crestwood) was second in the one-meter (226.65) while Erika Barczak (Williamston, Mich.) was third (210.23). They switched places on the three-meter board with Barczak finishing second (242.40) and O'Neill placing third (222.00).

WSU also won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:43.82 with a quartet of White, Danaher, Harrigan and Gammon.

The next competition for WSU is December 2-3 at the Eastern Michigan Invitational.
