YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Wayne State women's swimming and diving team finished in fourth place at the Eastern Michigan Invitational, which concluded on Saturday.
The Warriors set six school records and made several more national qualifying times in the final day of competition at EMU.
Michigan (1192) won the event, followed by the host Eagles (879) and North Dakota (453). The Warriors (419.5) finished ahead of Toledo (392), Calvin (244.5), Kalamazoo (111), Allegheny (91), Hillsdale (72), and Findlay (1).
The quartet of Katie Harrigan, Amber Staudacher, Elaina Hogle, and Haintso Rakouth set a new WSU record in the 200 medley relay, turning in a fourth-place time of 1:49.08.
Hogle also bested her own school record in the 400 IM, finishing in second place with a time of 4:31.78 and earning an NCAA "A" qualifying time.
Laura Leix set a new WSU record with a time of 58.91 in the 100 butterfly, good for fifth place and an NCAA "B" cut.
Ashley St. Andrew finished ninth in the 200 free (1:54.89), narrowly missing an "A" cut and school record. Melissa Duff placed 14th in the event (1:58.60).
In the 100 breaststroke, Amber Staudacher finished in eighth place and earned a "B" cut with a time of 1:07.53, while Jodi Scott took 15th (1:08.83).
Harrigan's time of 59.77 in the 100 backstroke gave her an NCAA "B" cut, as she finished in fifth place.
The 800 free relay team of Rakouth, Hogle, St. Andrew, and Harrigan beat the school record by nearly five seconds, taking fourth place in 7:46.92.
Another record was set in the 200 free relay by Rakouth, Julie Danaher, Hogle, and Brooke White, as they turned in a sixth-place time of 1:37.82, just missing the national qualifier.
In the 500 free, St. Andrew qualified for nationals and set a school record with her sixth-place time of 5:02.44. Duff earned a "B" cut with her ninth-place time of 5:08.90.
Danaher finished 12th and earned a "B" cut in the 50 free (24.77), while Rakouth narrowly missed her cut in 15th (24.85).
Katie Rence topped all WSU female divers in the three-meter competition, finishing eighth (194.25). Venessa Torres and Erika Barczak finished 10th (188.80) and 11th (176.50), respectively.
In the final event of the day, Wayne State finished ninth (4:02.91) in the 400 medley relay with the combination of Hogle, Staudacher, Leix, and Danaher.
Wayne State's next meet will be at Grand Valley State on Jan. 12.
