Women's Swimming Third After First Day At EMU Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Wayne State women's swimming team was in third place (190 points) after the first day of competition at the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Friday, behind Michigan (349) and the host Eagles (364).

The Warriors will enter day two ahead of Calvin (105), Allegheny (100), Kalamazoo (60), Findlay (19), Waterloo (17), Oakland (17), and Penn State Behrend (11).

Katie Harrigan took third in the 200 backstroke (2:07.66), and proved to be the only top-five finisher for the Warriors on the day.

Three other Warriors finished within two seconds of each other in that event, as Erin Hill came in ninth (2:13.62), Ashley Eilers finished 10th (2:14.67), and Mandy Burton finished 11th (2:15.01).

Melissa Duff finished sixth in the 1650 freestyle (17:47.51), while Tiffany Laforet and Alina Corrion finished eighth (18:29.85) and ninth (18:45.38), respectively.

The Warrior "A" relay of Brooke White, Julie Danaher, Amber Staudacher, and Burton placed sixth in the 400 freestyle relay.

The EMU Invitational will conclude Saturday, Dec. 3, with events starting at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
