YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Wayne State women's swimming team held its position and placed third after the second day of the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Saturday.
Michigan (1075 points) narrowly edged the host Eagles (1056), while the Warriors finished with 488 points. They defeated Calvin (425), Allegheny (324), Kalamazoo (239), Waterloo (167), Findlay (81), Oakland (38), and Penn State Behren (33).
The relay team of Erin Hill, Amber Staudacher, Katie Harrigan, and Brooke White finished fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:51.15).
Mandy Burton placed ninth in the 200 free (1:58.36), and Staudacher took eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.25).
Harrigan finished third in the 100 backstroke (59.35), while Hill took eighth place (1:02.22). Harrigan also took third in the 200 I.M. (2:09.02), and earned "B" qualifiers in both events.
The 200 free relay team of Amanda Marshall, Stephanie Cummings, Alina Corrion, and Tiffanie Laforet finished fifth (1:41.26), as did the 400 medley relay team of Cummings, Jodi Scott, Marshall, and White (4:04.45).
The Warriors will begin 2006 with GLIAC opponent Grand Valley State on Friday, Jan. 13, at the Matthaei Aquatic Center in Detroit.
