Women's Swimming Performs Well At Thursday Prelims

Preliminary Results

ASHLAND, Ohio - Wayne State will have six women in the "A" finals of individual events on Thursday evening at the GLIAC Championship following strong preliminary performances in the morning.

In the first event of the day, the WSU 200 free relay squad of Jenny Howe (Wyandotte, Mich./Riverview), Haintso Rakouth (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage), Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison), and Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.) finished in fourth place (1:41.67).

Three Warriors made the "A" final in the 500 freestyle. St. Andrew won the morning heat with a time of 5:05.36, while Melissa Duff (Howell, Mich./Brighton) came in fourth (5:13.69) and Maggie Young (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne's) in eighth (5:18.59). Mandy Burton (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) will swim the "B" final tonight after placing ninth (5:19.60) in her preliminary swim.

Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) and Katie Harrigan (Portage, Mich./Northern) finished first (2:09.22) and fourth (2:12.24), respectively, in the 200 IM and will be in tonight's "A" final. Erin Hill (Holt, Mich.) came in 14th (2:18.09) to qualify for the "B" final.

In the 50 free, Danaher qualified for the "A" final with a fourth-place time of 24.93, and Rakouth made the "B" final as she placed 10th (25.31).

To close out the preliminary round, the Wayne State 400 medley relay team of Hill, Jodi Scott (Windsor, Ont./Riverside S.S.), Elena Crowley (Detroit, Mich./Mercy), and Burton finished sixth (4:09.90).

The finals for these events, as well as the women's one-meter diving competition, will take place Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. Through Wednesday, Wayne State is in first place with 76 points, seven ahead of Grand Valley State.
