Women's Swimming Qualifies Nine For Friday's A Finals

ASHLAND, Ohio - With another strong preliminary round performance on Friday morning, the Wayne State women's swimming team has nine qualifiers who will participate in the "A" finals on Friday evening.

Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) and Whitney Baker (Trenton, Mich.) each qualified for the "A" final in the 400 individual medley, coming in third (4:37.31) and seventh (4:50.14), respectively, in their preliminary swims. Tiffanie Laforet (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne's) came in 12th (4:53.63) to make tonight's "B" final.

In the 100 butterfly, Laura Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) made the "A" final with a third-place time of 59.83, while Elena Crowley (Detroit, Mich./Mercy) finished ninth in 1:01.78, missing the "A" cut by just .09 seconds.

Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) finished second (1:56.93) in the 200 freestyle and made the "A" final, as did Haintso Rakouth (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) with a sixth-place time of 1:58.44.

Jodi Scott (Windsor, Ont./Riverside S.S.), who finished fifth (1:08.26) in the preliminary 100 breaststroke, will represent Wayne State in the "A" final, and Amber Staudacher (Rockford, Mich.) will swim in the "B" final after posting an 11th-place time of 1:09.40.

Three Warriors made the "A" final in the 100 backstroke, led by Katie Harrigan (Portage, Mich./Northern) who came in third (1:01.04). Erin Hill (Holt, Mich.) finished fourth (1:01.31), and Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.) placed sixth (1:01.79). Jenny Howe (Wyandotte, Mich./Riverview) will swim in the "B" final after a 10th-place finish (1:02.34).

Friday's final events, which will also include the 800 freestyle relay and the men's one-meter diving, are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
