DETROIT - Seven members of the 2007-08 Wayne State women's swimming and diving team were named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic team. The Warriors won their third straight GLIAC Championship in 2008 and placed sixth at the NCAA Championships, their best-ever national finish.
To be eligible for GLIAC All-Academic status, a student athlete must have: a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale); must be a starter or key reserve; and must not be a freshman or first-year transfer.
Selected to the GLIAC All-Academic team were redshirt senior Jodi Scott (Windsor, Ont./Riverside S.S.); seniors Whitney Baker (Trenton, Mich.), Erika Barczak (Williamston, Mich.) and Tiffanie Laforet (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne's); junior Melissa Duff (Howell, Mich./Brighton); and sophomores Laura Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) and Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison).
Scott and Barczak are three-time honorees, while Laforet earned her second career award and Baker and Duff their first. Leix and St. Andrew were eligible for the award for the first time this season.
