Wayne State University junior Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) and senior Sean Smith (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western) were named CollegeSwimming.com National Division II Swimmers of the Week, as selected Tuesday by a panel of collegiate head coaches.
Hogle finished in first place and earned an NCAA "A" qualifier in the 200 butterfly (2:06.79) as Wayne State defeated Denison University and Calvin College last Saturday in Detroit. She also won the 200 freestyle (1:59.19) and swam the butterfly leg of the first-place 400 medley relay (3:58.58).
Smith led off the men's 400 medley relay, which also finished first (3:31.24), and broke the Matthaei pool record in the 100 backstroke in the process (50.79). He also won the 200 butterfly (1:52.91) and the 200 backstroke (1:52.65).
Wayne State's next competition will be Dec. 5-6 at the Eastern Michigan Invitational.
