Wayne State swimming and diving head coach Sean Peters announced that two prospective student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to enroll at Wayne State University in the fall of 2006.
Elaina Hogle, a native of Kentwood, was a four-year letterwinner at East Kentwood High School, where she helped the Falcons to a second-place league finish in 2003. Hogle earned several honors in her career, including all-conference, all-district, and all-state accolades. She was also the team MVP in 2004 and 2005.
She placed 15th in the 200 individual medley at the state meet in 2003, and 11th the following year. She also placed 11th in the 100 breaststroke in 2003 and 14th in the 100 butterfly in 2004. This past season, Hogle finished seventh in the 200 I.M. (2:07.91 prelims, 2:09.52 finals) and sixth in the 100 fly (58.86 prelims, 59.17 finals).
Additionally, Hogle was on the varsity water polo squad for four years at East Kentwood.
She is the youngest of three children of Doug and Shelley Hogle.
Ashley St. Andrew, a native of Grand Rapids, was a four-year letterwinner at Jenison High School. She led the Wildcats to a conference title in 2004, as well as a first-place finish at the West Michigan relays in 2005.
St. Andrew earned all-conference honors all four years at Jenison, as well as all-state accolades in 2004 and 2005. She is a two-time team MVP, and served as the team captain in 2005 as well. She won three conference championships in the 500 free (2003-05), and another in the 200 free in 2003. St. Andrew swam to an eighth-place finish in the 500 free (5:07.30 prelims, 5:06.32 finals) and ninth-place in the 200 free (1:56.75 prelims, 1:56.17 finals) at the Division I state meet in 2005.
St. Andrew was also a varsity water polo player, as well as an accomplished club swimmer.
She is the youngest of three daughters of James and Susan St. Andrew.
"We are very excited about having Ashley and Elaina join the program," said Peters. "Both are very competitive and carry a strong work ethic. They will make an immediate impact on the program."
The Wayne State women's swimming team will graduate two seniors this spring - Amanda Marshall (Berkley, Mich.) and diver Lindsey O'Neill (Dearborn Hts., Mich./Crestwood).
